In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, the Navy is preparing an EIS for the Disposal and Reuse of NAS Brunswick, Maine.

The EIS process for the Disposal and Reuse of NAS Brunswick began in October 2008 with the publishing of the Navy’s Notice of Intent (NOI) in the Federal Register. The process continued with Public Scoping meetings held in November 2008. With the public’s involvement through the public scoping process, concerns were identified to be addressed in the Draft EIS. On May 4, 2010, the Navy published in the Federal Register a Notice of Availability (NOA) of the Draft EIS for the Disposal and Reuse of NAS Brunswick. This was followed by a public comment period that ended June 28, 2010. During the public comment period the Navy held two public information sessions / public hearings on June 2 and 3, 2010. On November 23, 2010, the NOA of the Final EIS for the Disposal and Reuse of NAS Brunswick was published in the Federal Register. The publishing of the NOA begins the 30-day mandatory wait period prior to the Navy publishing the Record of Decision (ROD).
