Base Property and Historical Use
Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base provides support infrastructure and services to assigned units and supported commands, enabling them to achieve their readiness and training goals. The station trains all assigned units for mobilization status. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base currently employs 1,289 active duty and 726 civilians to provide services and facilities to over 5,000 joint reserve personnel from 22 tenant and 32 reserve units associated with the station. The station is truly a Joint Reserve Base. The Willow Grove "team" supports Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force Reserve, and Pennsylvania Air National Guard and Army Guard units. From A-10 and C-130 aircraft, H-53 helicopters, soldiers on the ground to sailors on ships, these units deploy to Afghanistan, Iraq and around the globe. These are the people winning the global war on terrorism. Through outstanding support to Reservists, NASJRB Willow Grove fulfills the mission of the Naval Reserve - "support to the Fleet, ready and fully integrated." Some of the tenant and reserve units on the station include:

Marine Aircraft Group - 49 (MAG - 49) commands organizations located in Pennsylvania and New York. The Marine Fighter Squadron - 321 flies F/A - 18 Hornets. It trains reservists to fight worldwide along side active duty marine aviation units when mobilized; 913th Airlift Wing trains and equips reservists to perform the combat mission of aerial re-supply ranging from the strategic to the humanitarian operations worldwide;

111th Fighter Wing, Pennsylvania Air National Guard provides highly trained, will equipped and combat-ready A-10 aircraft and support elements in response to wartime and peacetime tasking under state or federal authority;

Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Six Four (VR-64) provides around-the-clock worldwide air logistic support for active and Reserve units;

Patrol Squadron Six Six (VP-66) provides contributory support to fleet in the conduct of maritime, antisubmarine warfare, antisubmarine warfare and aerial mine warfare;

Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Five Two (VR-52) provides around-the-clock, worldwide air logistic support for active and Reserve units.

Special Legislation
Special Legislation was enacted (Section 3703 the "U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act" of 2007) directing the Navy to transfer NASJRB Willow Grove to the Air Force for operation as a Joint Interagency Installation (JII). JII will operate under a lease/license arrangement between the Air Force and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. For additional information regarding the JII, please refer to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs website http://www.milvet.state.pa.us.
