What is BRAC?
"BRAC" is an acronym that stands for Base Realignment and Closure. It is the congressionally authorized process DOD uses to reorganize its base structure to more efficiently and effectively support our forces, increase operational readiness and facilitate new ways of doing business. For specific questions regarding the BRAC process please refer to the DoD BRAC Web site FAQs.

What benefit does the Department anticipate from a future BRAC round?
The Department will be able to divest itself of unnecessary installation infrastructure and use the resultant savings for improving fighting capabilities and quality of life for military forces. This will allow the Department to rationalize installation infrastructure with 21st century national security imperatives.

How is BRAC funded?
BRAC V is funded by congress as appropriations funds to support environmental cleanup, Navy caretaker costs and disposal costs. Prior BRAC bases are funded from land sale revenues.

How do I receive updates and information on the properties available for public sale?
Potential bidders and other interested parties are encouraged to register through the Navy BRAC Land Sales Website to get latest updates regarding available public sale properties.

As a retired member of the Navy, may I still stop in at NAS Brunswick to renew my vehicle stickers for access to military bases?
At the closed BRAC bases there is no longer a Navy presence that can issue badges or vehicle stickers.

Where can I find documents and information on the BRAC installations?
On the web pages for each of the installations is information as to the location of the public repository. Also, individuals can request documents from the Navy BRAC Webmaster with exact titles in the request, which is also addressed on installation web pages.

I worked for the Federal government at one time. How can I get a copy of my personnel file?
The BRAC PMO office does not retain personnel information for former federal employees. Information on this topic is available at the Nation Personnel Records Center.
