The United States Department of the Navy (Navy), in coordination with United States Environmental Protection Agency Region, California Regional Water Quality Control Board San Francisco Bay Region, and California Department of Toxic Substances Control, is currently conducting the third Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Five-Year Review (FYR) for Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs) 2, 5, 7, and 18; Installation Restoration (IR) Site 22A; and the Former Inland Burn Area and Railroad Sidings Excavation (FIB/RSE) sites of former Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Detachment Concord (NWS Concord), Concord, California.

Former NWS Concord Removal Action - May 2024

The Department of the Navy is performing a removal action at the Runway Debris Area (also called UXO Site 0014) within the Inland Area of the former Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Detachment Concord (NWS Concord). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the State of California Department of Toxic Substances Control and the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board provide oversight of the Navy's cleanup program.

Notice of Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis and Public Comment Period Former Naval Weapons Station Concord Runway Debris Area (Site 0014)

The U.S. Department of the Navy (DON), in coordination with the state and federal environmental regulatory agencies, encourages the public to comment on its Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) for a non-time-critical removal action (NTCRA) to identify and remove all metallic items from the soil, ensuring any items labelled as “potentially presenting an explosive hazard” (MPPEH) or “munitions and explosives of concern” (MEC) that potentially remain in soil are removed from the site.
