Informing and involving the community in cleanup decisions is an important part of the Navy’s environmental cleanup program at Alameda Point. This Community Involvement Plan (CIP) is a living document to guide community members and the Navy in sharing information and feedback about the ongoing environmental cleanup at the installation.

Former NAS Alameda - Final Record of Decision IR Site 32

The Department of the Navy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in coordination with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, and San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board announced the final remedy for Installation Restoration (IR) Site 32 on September 1, 2023. The remedy is presented in the Final Record of Decision (ROD) and requires remedial action including scanning and removing radiological objects that exceed project thresholds, installation of a 3-foot soil cover across the site, wetland mitigation and institutional controls restricting intrusive activities and the use of groundwater at the site. Future land use will also be restricted to recreational use only.
