Notice of Availability and Public Comment Period Proposed Plan for the Former Picnic Pond Stormwater Retention System at former Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine

NAS Brunswick -- The Department of the Navy announces the availability for public comment of the Proposed Plan for the Former Picnic Pond Stormwater Retention System at the former Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine. The plan was prepared as required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (also known as Superfund). The Former Picnic Pond Stormwater Retention System is located in the northeastern portion of the former base, north of Purinton Road and east of Orion Street.

The Department of the Navy announces the availability for public comment of the Proposed Plan for the Former Picnic Pond Stormwater Retention System at the former Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine. The plan was prepared as required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (also known as Superfund). The Former Picnic Pond Stormwater Retention System is located in the northeastern portion of the former base, north of Purinton Road and east of of Orion Street. Sediment contamination at the Former Picnic Pond Stormwater Retention System occurred as a result of its historical use as a stormwater retention system to channel and control stormwater drainage on the former base, as well as from the historical use of the Orion Street Skeet Range.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD 

The Proposed Plan is available for public review, and comment from October 9 to November 8, 2019. Comments must be submitted in writing and postmarked or e-mailed no later than November 8, 2019. If you have any questions, please contact:

PUBLIC MEETING

On October 23, 2019, the Navy will hold a public meeting at the Curtis Memorial Library located in Brunswick, Maine. From 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Navy staff will be available to explain proposed plan details and answer questions. Thereafter, a formal meeting will begin at 7:00 pm to allow the public a chance to provide comment to the Navy.
