Public Notice for Five-Year Review, November 2020

20 November 2020

From BEC

Naval Complex Long Beach - The Department of the Navy (Navy) has completed the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Five-Year Review for the former Long Beach Naval Complex (LBNC). The former LBNC includes the former Naval Station Long Beach and the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard, which are located on Terminal Island between the City of Long Beach and the San Pedro District of the City of Los Angeles. The Navy conducted the Five-Year Review in accordance with the requirements of CERCLA Section 121(c).

Protectiveness of the remedies were determined through document and data review, interviews, and site inspections. The Navy found that the remedies for IR Sites 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 are protective of human health and the environment. The next Five-Year Review for the former LBNC will be completed by December 2024.
