The public is invited to view information about the Navy’s plan to test water from private drinking water wells within designated areas near the Former Naval Air Station (NAS) Memphis in Millington, Tennessee beginning in May 2025. PFAS are a family of thousands of different chemicals which have been widely used in many household and industrial products since the 1950s. The Navy and Department of Defense (DoD) have developed proactive policies to address past releases of PFAS, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), at installations nationwide.

The Navy is requesting permission to sample private drinking water wells within the sampling area. Notifications have been mailed to residents within the sampling area, providing additional details for scheduling a sampling appointment if they are drinking water from a private drinking water well. If your drinking water is provided by a public water system, the Navy does not need to sample your drinking water.
