Former Adak Naval Complex - Sixth Five-Year Review

12 November 2025
The Department of the Navy, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), has begun a Five-Year Review (FYR) of the remedies selected at Former Adak Naval Complex. The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), also known as the "Superfund law," requires reviews of cleanup actions at Superfund sites be conducted at least once every five years. The purpose of these five-year reviews is to ensure that the cleanup solutions (remedies) chosen for a site are functioning properly and continue to protect human health and the environment. The Navy will solicit concerns and comments about the FYR remedies and performance through questionnaires and interviews with interested parties. Public participation is encouraged and welcomed. If you are interested in participating in the interview process, please contact Mr. Aaron Vernik at the contact information noted below.
