The United States Department of the Navy (Navy) is the lead agency implementing Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) environmental cleanup activities at Former Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Tustin, Tustin, California. Former MCAS Tustin is located approximately 6 miles southeast of Santa Ana and 9 miles northeast of Newport Beach. This notice informs the public that the Navy is initiating a Five-Year Review (FYR) for Former MCAS Tustin in accordance with the requirements of CERCLA Section 121(c). CERCLA requires a review every five years for each remedy selected in a Record of Decision to determine whether the selected remedies remain protective of human health and the environment. The Navy is conducting a FYR of the remedies implemented at Former MCAS Tustin for Operable Units (OUs) 1A, 1B, 3, and 4B. The Navy will issue for review a Draft Fifth FYR Report to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control and California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Santa Ana Region.
