Statement: The Navy is committed to updating the public about environmental cleanup efforts at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard (HPNS). Here is a summary of the Navy’s latest cleanup and outreach progress at HPNS:

  • Work Continues on Parcel G. The Navy has excavated more than half of 22 trench units in the first phase of the Parcel G retesting work, which includes radiological screening and soil sampling. While this work continues, the Navy is conducting air monitoring near work areas and using dust control measures to ensure public safety. Parcel G retesting fieldwork is expected to be completed by spring 2022.  Information about the Parcel G retesting work will be available to the public from March 22-25 through a self-paced, virtual experience accessible at: https://visualmedia.jacobs.com/HPNS_March2021
  • Briefed Citizen Advisory Committee. On 22 Feb., the Navy participated in a virtual meeting hosted by the Hunters Point Shipyard Citizen Advisory Committee by presenting information and answering questions from the panel and local residents. The Navy shared that Parcel G retesting results to date are below remedial goals or background values.  Information was also provided on air monitoring results and dust control measures used to ensure public safety. The Navy’s presentation is available on the HPNS website under the 2021 Meeting Material section.
  • Released the HPNS Annual Update. The Navy recently posted its annual update on work completed in 2020 at HPNS. For an in-depth look at the Navy’s progress over the past year, you can review the update on the HPNS website.
  • Met with Homeowners Group. On 28 Jan., the Navy held a meeting on a virtual platform with the Hunters Point Homeowners Association (HOA). More than 60 attendees were provided with information about the Navy’s cleanup work at HPNS – including Parcels E, E-2, and G. Residents asked the Navy questions about the progress of work and project timelines. You can find the Navy’s full presentation to the HOA group on the HPNS website.
  • Provided Access to Radiological Expert.  Dr. Kathryn Higley, an internationally recognized radiological health and safety expert from Oregon State University, remains available for those who have questions or concerns about the work at HPNS. Dr. Higley serves as an independent resource to the community. If you were unable to attend the virtual office hours, she welcomes your questions directly by phone (541) 737-0675, email (Kathryn.Higley@oregonstate.edu), or by appointment.
