21 April 2026
The Navy conducts a comprehensive review of laboratory data analyzed on samples collected as part of rigorous and ongoing quality control efforts at the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard (HPNS) site. The Navy recently identified a potential data quality issue with a laboratory used by a contractor that provides support on multiple projects.

  • There is no indication of public health risk.
  • The issue was discovered as part of routine, detailed data quality review processes.
  • The Navy has notified regulatory agencies and City of San Francisco officials.

The Navy is coordinating with regulatory agencies to determine if additional steps need to be taken to ensure data accuracy and quality. The Navy continuously evaluates laboratory data to ensure accuracy and quality; protection of public health and the environment are our highest priorities. Additional details will be shared with the community at the Hunters Point Shipyard Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Meeting on April 27 (click here and here for upcoming meeting details).
